The group has established a firm connection with New Zealand through home grown flute player, Elizabeth Farrell. The concert includes premières of works by Dylan Lardelli and Robin Toan commissioned by Ensemble Selisih through Creative New Zealand in 2008 and works by visiting composer Dieter Mack as well as Gillian Whitehead, Chang-soon Ryu and Michael Norris.
Ensemble Selisih was formed in 2004 when Daniela Wahler and Markus Rombach premiered the saxophone duet ‘Selisih’, a work dedicated to them. ‘Selisih’ is an Indonesian term meaning dialogue or argument and the duo decided to use the title as the conceptual program of their further musical activities. In 2006, Elizabeth Farrell (flute) and Mathias Trapp (piano) extended the ensemble. The young musicians from Freiburg work together in experimenting with and extending the sound possibilities of their instruments. The ensemble is committed to performing and commissioning new works and working with emerging composers to realise new sound worlds for this unusual combination of instruments.
